Part:BBa_K3258000
phage shock promoter
This part encodes the promoter whose expression is up-regulated from infection with filamentous phage (specifically expression of gIV, which creates pIV, a protein involved in creating membrane pores that allow phage to leave the cell). This part is similar to part BBa_K2832003 in that both help the cells respond to extracellular stresses. However, we have found that BBa_K2832003 is active in log phase, but not stationary phase, while this part is active in stationary phase, but not log phase.
When used as the promoter for an infection reporter, this part presents an improvement over BBa_K2832003 for that reason - for PREDCEL+, we may grow cells to saturation and store them at 4 degrees Celsius for subsequent infection and phage evolution.
